OFFICE POLITICS – The survival Guide
“My job is okay, but I can’t stand the office politics…!”
Oh, if only I had a shiny Kruger Rand for every time I have lent a caring ear to a friend’s problems only to hear that statement come back!
If you put people to work together in a structured or controlled environment, you are going to get people talking about one another. So is there a solution? Well, I have found that if you are outspoken or passionate (aka “loudmouth”) you are more likely to get dragged into it as opposed to “Mild Mildred” who keeps very much to herself and the photos of her cats.
The key to overcoming office politics ….
….is not caring about what gossips think about you. If they want to gossip about you, let them. After all, the only thing worse than being spoken about is NOT being spoken about.
Obviously being caught in a compromising position with Alice in accounts after a few too many “coldies” at the staff party is going to make you more of a target but on the whole, office politics will always be there, so there is not much worth worrying about.
